Metropolis PrepCity Conference in Berlin
The UN HABITAT III conference in Quito in October 2016 is set to adopt the New Urban Agenda, designed to support the realisation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Cities are experiencing a compounding of various problems, ranging from the supply of housing and access to water, energy and education, to the necessity of climate-compatible mobility and measures to ensure acceptable living standards. Cites are also where innovative solutions to address these problems are being found. For this reason, city networks such as Metropolis would like to bring their experiences, expectations and national solution approaches into the process of the formulation of the New Urban Agenda. The Metropolis PrepCity conference, held in Berlin between 2 and 4 May 2016, provided an exchange and cooperation forum in order to assist in this process. City representatives and experts from the metropolises Berlin, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Guangzhou, Hyderabad, Johannesburg, Montréal, Nairobi, Mexico City, Rosario, Quito, Sydney and New York discussed how cities can become more involved and what mandates for action they require in order to implement sustainable developments within cities.
Urban Catalyst developed workshop formats and an “evolving exhibition” for the conference, designed to show and document the knowledge and the insights gathered during the exhibition.
