FOR EAST HAMBURG
Discover East Hamburg
The eastern districts of Hamburg are known to many citizens as “Terra Incognita”.
Monofunctional urban spaces, isolated living quarters, dominant utility and transport infrastructure, as well as, large commercial and industrial areas shape the image of eastern Hamburg. After large-scale projects, such as the IBA Hamburg and HafenCity, these inner-city areas on the Elbe and Bille rivers are brought into the focus of urban development.
The project outlines new development perspectives of densifying the eastern neighborhoods. By focusing on eleven areas exemplary impulse strategies for sustainable and socially equitable urban development are worked out.
The proposal reveals the potential for new housing qualities, sustainable work environments, attractive public spaces and waterfront locations, by establishing how they can contribute and relate to one another.
