A VISUAL SPATIAL
MODEL FOR OWL
Future Visions for Ostwestfalen-Lippe
Faced with the forces of demographic shifts, digital transformation, the tendency of metropolises to form and the magnet effect of inner cities, spatial planning is currently facing a set of particular challenges, above all in terms of rural areas.
These challenges are addressed in the region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe in in the project Regionale 2022 – Das neue UrbanLand (The New Urban Land).
In order to classify the different structural preconditions and to assimilate the various actors, a dialogue and planning process is to be held, the results of which will include not only the first project ideas but also a visual spatial model. So as to shape the future of the region, a common understanding of the spaces involved and the fields of action they represent is required. How should the spaces evolve? Where does the region want to go? What are the identifiable linkages and developmental dynamics? How can a common spatial future be depicted, and in which locations can specific project ideas contribute to propelling the region forwards and to meeting the particular challenges it faces?
At the core of this dialogue process are a series of participation workshops involving the regional actors, aimed ultimately at using the visual spatial model and its formalisation to provide a system of guiding coordinates for the Regionale 2022, the project partners involved and the future regional development of Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
